The Violet Hour

Hello everyone,
Here is something I have written of late and would like to share with you all. Enjoy!

The Violet Hour

Deep inside my dreams,
I search for your face.
It appears for only a little while,
The disguise of my attributions
Yet I hold it all the more tight.

I can hear the rain falling, the wind brushing against my back.
I could not close the windows, I could not slip against the tide.
Light streams in corners only I would see.
Words drift in gentle circles around my mind.

Keats sings a haunting song, while Poe wails at what is lost.
Against the world, my pride is my suffering.
Won't you hold me tight against your heart before I run away.
Won't you let me go before I fall away.

Against the rising sun, I find the clarity I needed once so long ago.
Days revel against broken promises, it whispers what it cannot be.
Walking along the field of maroon, I speak to the Gods and pray for the release of my dreams.
Wonder slowly falls against my shadow.
It whispers faith, it speaks of a hero, it screams fire.

Ode to Spring

Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.
Pamela Vaull Starr

Hello all!

Here is something that I wrote recently- a friend actually came up with an idea where I can put my verses and writings in print (where I'll come up with many beautiful designs, etc) and possibly frame them, where I'll then put it up on Etsy... thoughts??

This is in dedication to one of my favorite seasons... the promise of loveliness to come!

Spring

I came across a wintry garden one day
The sky so fine I fear it would ripple should something fly across.
My nerves are riveting with a strange sense of numbness.
Cold is its presence, long forgotten traces of memory.

Should I enter the threshold of your belonging
I fear I may lose control.
And now I'm down on my knees
Holding you close, I long to dream again.

We arrive at the edge of the age of wonder,
I longed to reach my fears, rip the ends and its seams.
Light follows me and when night falls, I keep that light out for you.
Blanketed by tiny kisses of stars, I then lie low in search of our castles in the sky.

When hours fall into years beneath me,
I reach out to feel the warmth of the wind during summer days.
When I walk, I step closer to where your heart is.
Pages of significant remedies, words channel deep to the sound of my inner symphony.

When I went back to the garden once more,
Such strength left winter speechless and degenerated.
The swelling deep inside me will not disappear
And I see lilies everywhere.
Monet closes his eyes and releases a heartbreaking sigh.

Nightbook Nostalgia

Hello all,

Here is a piece that I have written lately and would love to share with you all.

Nightbook Nostalgia

So I long for your world down below.
You pray to see your graceful leap
into the night, upon your wings
While I'm alone again.

All this time, through your truths
It whispers your dark insincerities
As the stars pull away, I cannot seem to hold you back
I draw near your voice, it breaks me down so carefully.

Lines that form perpendicular catastrophes
The forbidden fruit gives off it's sweet and tragic wonder
Too long have men strived to hold in their hands what was never there.
The canvas stands like a lonely soldier, waiting for a kind heart to bleed along the corners.
Words of a thousand years kept me wide awake, sleep is thus another scholars' portal.

I long to dream again.

~
An afterword: Nightbook Nostalgia was inspired by Ludovico Einaudi's beautiful piano piece called "Nightbook". In a sense, I've become so enraptured with this piece that I listened to it often on repeat of different versions to this piece: the orchestral version, then the piano solo and the live edition when he played at the Royal Albert Concert Hall which took place in London earlier this year.
For the concept of the word "Nostalgia" that appeared after the word Nightbook, I have always been fascinated by that word...in Greek, it means "the pain from an old wound". Nostalgia is thus a twinge in your heart that is far more powerful than one's memory can ever provoke, and for me that was simply how I felt in conjuring up a multitude of memories when I wrote this piece.

The Wonder

Sometimes, we all like to think we have the best of everything.
But then comes the moments we long to have for and refuse to let go just yet.
I could barely make it to shore during the days when the storm seemed to thrash and send me away from where I needed to be.
Where the attempt to strike me into a thousand pieces and scatter them to all four corners of the world accomplished its cry to haunt me.
By then it felt that all of what was left was the remnants of yesterday's dream, lost and forgotten by the whispers that were said long ago.
How could I not see it coming, I failed to grasp the simple truth.

Then without a word, you came along, and held me against the wind.
With a steady gaze you slowly lifted me out from the recurring pattern I could not break out of.
The warmth and the acknowledgment on so many things, echoed between the words that were spoken.
It took me awhile to realize what it all meant, to be able to hold fast to something what was once thought it could not be reached.
The recurring thoughts that floated right through in the depths of Evening, how it circled and clouded my judgement.

But what immense light it brought, touching all forms of everything that I see.
Without even knowing, you revived me back to life, and I can never forget those moments, forever etched into the steadfast of time.
I hold these moments carefully in my hands, watching how it swirls and glimmers against the rays of light, and slowly press them to my heart.

October

Hello all,

I wrote this recently through a combinations emotions that I was going through, where words were really the comfort I needed, the embrace to let things go and let it lie. It was my form of escape, a reason for me to move on and just mould my writings where it can set me free, in a sense.

Enjoy!

October,
Written by Joanne Angelina

I really wished that it was you,
the one that would have pulled me through
the dark when all I've held was lost.
This love, it was never something that could be bought.

The help, I see it in your eyes,
your face buried in so much disguise.
I hear your inner voice calling out to me,
and you are everything that I wish to see.

I sense something deep within these waters,
The home I found in you, now gone and I'm left to wonder.
After realizing this subliminal end,
How sorry I was to think that we can begin again.

And here I stand, looking over the drifting landscape.
Chance brought me here, yet it becomes too much to take.
Like the sudden fall of glass on the winding floor,
Will the light fill in? I cannot be sure.

I sense the cold come creeping in,
Summer an awaking dream, I'll miss you so much as days grow dim.
Truth is I know I could have never been the one.
How it chocked me so, how it wrapped me so- Time whispers, " I seem to be wrong".

Ten million fireflies lit up the world as I fell asleep

I'll break my staff,
Bury it in certain fathoms in the earth,
And deeper than did ever
Plummet sound
I'll drown my book.
-William Shakespeare, The Tempest

Hello all!

This week so far has got me sweltering under the heat, and I found my thoughts drifting into elsewhere. Here is a piece I wrote inspired by an amazing weekend away from the city, up where the stars are clear, and all forms of everyday concerns pour into the waters on the lake.

Away

Away from the heart of it all
Lies the penetrating glow of release
In between the trees, hanging low
The leaves like stories, they call to me.
In the still of the night,
You carry me.
My arms laced around your neck
My eyes shut tight as I sink into you
As you carry me down the path.
The moon stares with its penetrating glare,
Into this vast space, you hold me through.

Fireflies drift above us,
It winks at us in secret compromise.
The water, an expanse- it embraces me as I sink.
A butterfly becomes a part of me for just one moment
As it lands without a sound on my finger, its wings carry so much time in this world- for only just a moment.

Further and further in I'm drawn,
Our heartbeats weave their song when I say your name.
This light that bears all that we love from the middle of the room.
I close my eyes, fingers intertwined within mine.
I walk with you as twilight enters the woods.

And then I float while you held me,
Holding me adrift.
For only just a moment,
I float above it all.
And it has become forever when I realize:
You are who I am and this world has become powerless, where we stand.

And that's all for now!

Writings from my Van Gogh Moleskine

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Nightingale

February 27, 2010

When I wake from this dream, I know that what I have dreamed was too beautiful, too perfect to settle into the reality of my world and life which I dance through.
I peer out pass my curtains and see the violet dusk of twilight.

Oftentimes it seemed like I was near the seashore watching the sun setting, looking past the ocean to see what seems like a long-drawn fire across the sky with heaps of black, deep red and wisps of yellow and orange cracking, surrounding.
I touch the pane of my window, trace the imperfections and the tiny cracks etching through the lines, feeling the cold from the outside pouring into my fingers.
As I take in this scenery, a scenery I call my own, I think of you.

You, the one who never left my mind. You, the one that I think of every moment of my waking hour and when I breathe, when I close my eyes and let out the slow whisper of your name.
You, that appears whenever I glance at everything that penetrates of life, where I instantly feel your caress, your voice, your eyes gazing back intensely at me.
Too far have we gone and not see the light sink in. I often wonder how nothing ever seems to last and that we have all gone down that path before where we find ourselves glancing at the other side of the mirror, wondering how we arrived there in the first place.

When I look up, I see the tiny buds on the tree. I reach out and wrap my hand in its entirety, thinking if I held one part of the branch, I would somehow feel its pulse, its long drawn affair of life coursing through its veins, its sigh.

And when night falls, I think of our conversations. The one where even years afterward, it would still wound around my head. Because it was the kind that only came from you. Because you were the only thing that mattered to me in this world, in this lifetime.
I look up to the dark sky and see the bright glow of the moon, its light basking on my face.
I breathe in the scent of night air and it carries the promise of peace, of reflection, of dreams.
And when I lie on the grass, I think how much I wished I could have been the one who saved you. I wished so hard that it bit into the very portion of my heart.
And it was then that I remember.
I remember that morning when you called me darling and when you said that you loved me. How that word seeped into my skin, intoxicating me with that electrifying warmth, his everlasting warmth.
In return, I whispered back those eight final words which lasted for an eternity:
"I hope we can always feel this way."

Something I wrote as I was looking out the window at a cafe

Our waking hours form the text of our lives, our dreams, the commentary.

Winter

Why is it that every time I close my eyes,
It seems as though I could see you right through.
Your voice, your tears, your shadows, your fears,
It simply goes right through.

You're always in my thoughts and dreams.
Sinking into my universe.
Hold fast to me, I will carry you,
You're gone when I'm awake.

All this time, I seem to drift
Among these ashes of yesterday
Where only sands of time remain.
Now there only seems to be bare remnants of a golden star
How beautiful, how heart-breaking, how startling it once was.
Gone, when I'm awake.
